Linux on the System/390
2004-July-14: I finally updated this when I moved the site to my new server.
This page is here only for historical interest.
If you want to know more about Linux on the System/390 and zSeries, please
try Mark Post's excellent LinuxVM.org.
I work for Sine Nomine Associates,
which also does quite a lot of Linux/390 consulting work. We're quite good,
if I do say so myself.
Please check one of those two sites for current information on Linux on
the System/390 and zSeries.
2004-July-14:
EVERYTHING BELOW HERE IS HORRENDOUSLY OUTDATED AND SHOULD NOT BE
BELIEVED
Software ports for Linux/390
I am maintaining a library of patches at PenguinVM. Please
look there for what's available. The short answer is, almost everything builds
quite easily.
Linux/390 Information Links
The following sites have information about Linux on the S/390:
- Linux/390 Notes
and Observations. Your one-stop guide to Linux/390, by Neale Ferguson.
Loads of useful information.
- Linux/390 at Marist College.
Contains documentation and file system images. This is also the future home
of linux390.org.
-
Linas Vepstas's page. This
page contains pointers to the Linux being developed in public,
parallel to IBM's secret project of S/390 support.
How the two incompatible efforts will be merged remains to be seen.
-
IBM's page about their S/390 port. Their patches to the kernel are
here as well.
Screenshots
Here are two screenshots of the different flavors of Linux/390:
